Become a board member at DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland!

For the next board year (2024-2025) DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland is looking for new boardmembers! During a board year at the most fun department of DWARS you’ll get the chance to give your all for half a year for DWARS and your DWARS ideals. It’s a super fun experience in which you’ll gain a lot of knowledge, skills and experience and meet a lot of new people. Above all, it will give you the freedom for your brilliant ideas!

Your term will run from July 1st 2024 until June 30th 2025. A position in the department board is easy to combine with an education or (side)job. As long as you’re a member of DWARS, or would want to become one, there aren’t any requirements (like membership duration or level of education) connected to a board position. Experience is not needed either, a lot of enthusiasm will do just fine! We with that explicitly encourage everybody who wants to show more of themselves for the organisation to apply.

Boardmember will be elected at the next department meeting (DP) on Thursday June 20th. The candidates’ motivations will be shared with the members beforhand. So, for that reason, please apply by November 22nd at the latest. You’ll then also get invited by the Searchcommittee (Zoekcommissie) for an introductory meeting. It is possible to apply during the DP itself, however your motivation will then not be able to be shared.

If you get elected, the rest of the board will introduce you into your new position.

This is what the board does…

DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland creates a space for DWARSers from Noord-Holland and Flevoland to engage with green and social politics in an accessible way. Besides that DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland is a place for youth with shared ideals. The department also wants to be a voice for young people in (regional) politics and within GroenLinks. DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland does this by organising both substantive and social activities, participating in actions and demonstrations, and publishing opinion pieces.

As DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland  board member you’ll be jointly responsible for the day to day running of the department. Two to three times a month you’ll organise a fun interesting activity, and about once a month a social activity, like a drinks night. During events board members are responsible for everyone living by the DWARS Code of Conduct. Every other week there’s a boardmeeting. Furthermore, the board share responsibility over the various committees that make the department more interesting. Besides attendance at meetings and activities every board member is responsible for their own board tasks. Below you can read more about the individual positions.

Chairperson

As chairperson you’re responsible for the general coordination of the board, the contact with external organisations and DWARS at national level. You’ll also be ’the face’ of the department, for the media, other organisations and most importantly for (new) members. Within the board you’ll make sure to keep things organised, you preside over boardmeetings and make sure everybody within the board fulfills their responsibilities. Besides that, you might have other responsibilities which get shared out across the board. The position takes about 10 hours a week.

Boardmember Promotion and Membership

As boardmember Promotion and Membership you’ll be tasked with promoting DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland, all it’s fun activities and the possibilities we have to offer. You won’t only manage the social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter), but you’ll also make the department look flashy in imagery and text. You’ll also think about the best ways to reach new members, and about potential offline promotion, like phone calling. Besides that, you might have other responsibilities which get shared out across the board. The position takes about 6 hours a week.

  • You know how to implement (social) media effectively.
  • You’re a flexible worker.
  • You have experience with social media and the design programme Canva, or you’re willing to learn.
  • You show initiative and responsibility.
  • You’re enthusiastic and like to tackle things head-on.
  • You look after DWARS values and ideals, though you don’t have to agree with everything.
  • You have enough time for DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland this coming half year.

Bestuurslid Internationaal

As boardmember International you’ll be tasked with making the department more international and the cooperation with other political youth organisations across the border. This also means you’ll be responsible for making the department accessible for its members who don’t have Dutch as their primary language. Making it accessible means among other things translating various documents, webpages and texts. Besides that, you’ll keep contact with partner organisations, international organisations, interest groups and international politicians. You’ll also be responsible for the committee International who organises internationally oriented activities, sometimes in cooperation with partner organisations or other organisations. Besides that, you might have other responsibilities which get shared out across the board. The position takes about 4 hours a week.

This is what we’re looking for!

  • You like keeping contact with international organisations and politicians.
  • You have a high level of comprehension of the English language.
  • You view the world through international glasses.
  • You like translating documents, webpages, and other content into English.
  • You’re interested in thinking about how we can organise more internationally oriented activities.

General boardmember

There’s also the possibility to apply for general boardmember. You’ll be free(-ish) to fill it in to your will. You can do thing which aren’t covered by other positions or by vacant positions. You can also choose to not focus on one thing specifically, but be more flexible in your availability. Eventually it’s down to members at the DP if they think your ideas are worthy of the cause.
